Played a demo of Magicka. It’s not bad, but I’m not sure it’s worth buying, even at the discounted price Steam’s selling it for just now. The idea of comibining magic as the game does is interesting, and has good potential, but I don’t quite like the implementation of it–at least in the demo, you can just pick a spell and use it forever. I tried some variations, but none seemed sufficiently better to make it worth the trouble of remembering and using a bunch of combinations. Basically, it just seemed like lightning against a group at a range, lightning/arcane against a single target at a range, and an area release of lightning/arcane against a group close up. And that’s it.
Unless the full game is just vastly bigger and better than the demo, I can’t see myself being willing to pay more than a couple of dollars for it, when I have so many other options.
